Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas Review

Let me start my review with just a little note about Los Cabos.

I fell in love with the area. The weather was even more perfect than I expected. In the day, you could choose your temperature. You could lie by the pool or on the beach and get toasty hot or find some shade and be perfectly comfortable. I chose to alternate. In the evenings, I could never decide whether to put my jacket on or not. I was comfortable with or without it. My wife chose to wear a light weight sweater in the evenings.

The town was very charming with 6 or 7 cool bars all in one area with live music and dance music. The marina is located downtown, so you can arrange your boat tours there to go to lover’s beach, watch the whales or snag a marlin.

The Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas is only 10 minutes and a $10 taxi ride away from town. You can also go by water taxi for $8, but the water is choppy.

The resort has very pristine landscaping. The grass was like a croquet court and all the trees and bushes were perfectly manicured. The beach in front is very different from the flat beaches of the Caribbean and the Mexican Caribbean. From the water up to the resort, you go up about 2 stories of elevation. The beach was very wide and the sand on the slope is very soft and deep. The water was frigid, and even though you could swim in the ocean, most of the people in the water were 20 or younger.

Not many resorts can compare to the view you have from the Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas. The arch and downtown are very scenic. And almost every day between the two, a cruise ship comes in and parks for the day. Even at night the lights from town are charming. The best views are from the bar off the lobby, the beach and from the 2 infinity pools.

The rooms here are very spacious and comfortable. Since you can’t drink the water the fridge is well stocked with water, sodas and beer. Everything worked. The TV wasn’t convenient for watching in bed, but we scarcely turned it on. Everything in the room worked and was in good condition. The bathroom was all marble and had a double vanity. The beds were just ok. Most of our time spent in the room was on our patio, because again the weather was always perfect.

The 2 pools were huge and clean and refreshing. They have all the activities in one pool, and the other pool is for reading and relaxing. The infinity effect is really enhanced by the view.

The food was good. We mostly went with the buffets, because the food is decent and they always have such a great variety. You can always eat exactly when you want and you are in control of your time. You could make a nice salad, enjoy Mexican food, or chose from several other international dishes. I always tried to save room for the dessert area, complete with an ice cream bar and espresso machine. One night we ate at the Japanese restaurant and it was excellent. I filled up on sushi and my wife is still talking about her sweet and spicy shrimp dish.

The entertainment was good. Especially at night, you could tell their entertainment group spent tons of time rehearsing. Our favorite night was the dancer’s rendition of “Mama Mia”.

I would highly recommend this resort. Because of the resort’s convenience to town, the views, the spacious rooms, the facilities and the entertainment, the Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas would be my top recommendation for an all inclusive resort in Los Cabos.
